Rules & Procedures: During the first few days of school the students and I will create a list of procedures that we all can agree on to help our classroom be safe, organized and full of learning. These procedures will coincide with the school rules and Behavior Plan below. It is very important that you support the rules and procedures of the school/class and discuss the importance of learning with your child. If behavior becomes an issue at any time I will send a note home or making a phone call to you. Please check your child’s backpack daily for any notes. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call and set up an appointment with me to discuss the matter further.
The Leader in Me
We use the tenets of Stephen Covey’s book, The Leader in Me, to promote The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. These habits, which will be highlighted and discussed daily, include: Be Proactive, Begin With the End in Mind, Put First Things First, Think Win-Win, Seek First to Understand Then to be Understood, Synergize, and Sharpen the Saw. There is an eighth habit that will be introduced this year, Find Your Voice. More information can be found at www.theleaderinme.org.
Rules and Behavior Plan:
CHAMPS=Conversation level Help Activity Movement Participation Success
Behavior and learning expectations to help students be successful in school.
Positive Reinforcement:
Praise children for making good choices. Instead of pointing out negative behaviors focus on the positive. Some examples…
Give affirmations like…
“You are doing a great job with ______.”
“I can see you are trying really hard to ______.”
“I like _____.”
“Thank you for ______.”
Give rewards like high fives, smiles, winks, thumbs up, stickers, special activity time, etc.
Be Kind:
It’s simple, just “catch” people being kind and give them positive reinforcement!
If students choose to not make smart choices, then…
If you have a concern or question please do not hesitate to ask. 702.799.2680 Thank you for your support!

If students choose to not make smart choices, then…
- Remind them of the rule.
- Remind them of the rule again and give them a warning.
- Tell them they need to take a break at the Thinking Center, otherwise know as "reflective thinking time". Remind students to think about how they can solve their problem and suggest they use the resource behavior posters, if needed. Tell them to raise their hand when they have an idea. If they have a reasonable answer, then they may come back to the classroom activity. If not, help them by asking would you like some help? Then give two ways to solve the problem and let them chose one.
- If the student continues making bad choices, speak to the parents and/or write a behavior referral depending on the infraction.
